Hi Everyone, We have a user who needs to work on some files with the extension '.drw' no software installed on the machine will open these, including: paint, Photoshop, Microsoft word, internet explorer, notepad, windows photo viewer and others. I have researched this file in an attempt to find a free piece of software to open the files, however they all appear to be very expensive, or don't in fact open these. Does anyone work with these files, or know of free software that will open them? Immediately turn the computer off.

Any additional usage only furthers the spread of the virus or embeds it deeper. On another computer, download a bootable anti-virus CD or USB tool (I personally like KRD ) and burn it to a your CD or USB thumb drive.
Boot the computer from the Anti-virus tool and allow it to configure the network, update, and then scan. The problem with many anti-virus scanners is that if they are running as the virus/malware is running, you really cannot be sure that the virus is cleaned up. Many virus know how to undermine the windows virus scanners so unless they catch it at the outset, more than likely it will continue to miss it either because it is not aware of it (signatures not updated) or the virus is hiding (read blocking the view of) itself.

Unfortunately, the last person to have encountered the files (and apparently used them with no issue) left us rather quickly a while back and hasn't been heard from. As I previously mentioned, A trial would not be suitable if these files are a common occurrence, meaning I need a long term solution.Sean i understand what you are saying. What i would do is go to the network and find the files and convert them, then see if you can get a long-term solution. I have often had to fix something briefly, but made it clear to my superiors that the long-term solution was something that cost money. This has worked in most cases. Hope you find a working solution soon.
