Cons: 64BIT NOT READY!
I can't even remember all the problems I had with Vista 64 but here are a few. First: Overall performance was sluggish. The desktop felt nasty. Video Second: My 9800GX2 turned my room into an oven. Fan would go from 0 to 100% every 5 seconds. I had the fan on 100% not only to deal with the heat, but because hearing the fan rev up and down was getting old, fast!
If you Do not Have one Try to Use a Diffrent Older USB Port that isn't USB 3.0 As Vista and 7 Does not have Drivers For it Until you manually install them. Category Science & Technology.
Got 10-15FPS in Crysis Warhead Low @ 1440x900. Movies would skip when I would seek, from DVDs or from movie files off my hard drive. Audio: No EAX obviously. Alchemy.yea right. Would not record audio properly. Line, Mic, etc.
From Onboard Realtek, or Audigy 2. Had a constant pause/play with static type effect when audio was recorded. Had to reboot several times and hope it would work. Designed for idiots, by idiots. I know what I am doing, I don't need to confirm 20 times every time. I know I can disable UAC, and edit my Windows in mmc to customize.
Other Thoughts: NVidia 780i, Intel Q9300, GSKILL 4GB DDR2 1066, NVidia 9800GX2, Audigy 2ZS, WD 2500, 3200, 7.1 Creative Surround Sound, Samsung 26'. I had all the latest Vista updates. The latest drivers for my GPU. Latest audio drivers from Creative. Yes the 64bit versions! Went back to XP yesterday and now I average 40FPS on High at 1920x1200 on Warhead?
Not even sure but I don't skip frames anymore. No problems with audio. Awesome performance. Only 3GB of RAM but still perform better than Vista 64!
I heard the 32bit was good though. Pros: This.is.the best I've ever seen. I'm not that much of a fanboy of either intel or AMD, most of my life I've bought computers and not thought about what it has inside.
Lately, I've been building my PC and I LOVE IT. With this thing inside of this, there are not hitches, no bumps, nothing standing in the way of my enjoyment. This great piece of technology is amazing for this price. If you're thinking about getting a high-end AMD proccesor, you've found it. With a 790GX Foxconn A7DA-S, you can easily overclock this baby to run as fast as those higher-end intel processors, and it's stable. I haven't overclocked it yet since I don't wanna ruin the warranty, but I will one day.soon.

Other Thoughts: GET IT NOW IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT IT, DON'T WAIT!! Pros: Adding on to my previous review. Windows Ultimate comes with several extra's. One which includes Windows DreamScene. Windows DreamScene is an animated wallpaper technology developed by Microsoft that plays high-definition video content as your wallpaper.
The key ability of it is that it can do so without using significant amounts of CPU (basically the decoding of the video is the only real CPU use involved). The animation itself is run through the hardware accelerated DWM.
This app alone makes Ultimate worth it. It plays any video you want as your background, and the default video is pretty incredible already. As a designer, i am thinking about making my own video background with Particle Illusion or After Effects, it would be amazing.
Remember, this isn't for everyone and this program still does take up some resources so it may not be for those have bare minimum systems running Vista. The start menu now has a search bar which is actually extremely usefu Cons: Too many updates. I just downloaded 1.2GB worth of important to recommended windows updates for vista. This is no good -. Language Packs are really big.
Pros: If you are reading this, then hopefully you already know that vista is and isn't for some people. You gotta have a decent computer, if you plan on running the Aero theme. Vista is solid in the time that I've used it.
Disk Cleanup is a WHOLE lot better and more effective. The Aero theme is just downright sexy. As someone said before, just like when XP came out, everyone hated it, but now everyone prefers it. Give Microsoft some time to release a service pack and then the OS becomes a dream.
Driver compatibilities are getting better, I plugged in all my devices and everything was auto-detected and worked right off the bat. I had to update several to the newest version, but no big deal. Be sure you get a decent computer if you plan on using Vista at all. 64bit is the future, sooner or later ALL programs will be in 64. 64bit also gives you the ability to use more than 3GB of RAM, so this is a major plus.
Installation process was easier than XP as well. Cons: Disk Defrag, no longer has a% done bar. I want to see how much it's done!
Not a 'This process could take a minutes to a few hours.' That is WAY to general. This is not really a con, more over caution for stupidity, but Vista does a performance check on your computers components during the installation process. Before install, never OC your system at all, as if your OC is unstable, Vista WILL crash and hang at this part. A hard reboot is necessary. Most of the time everything is fine, but don't risk it, and just OC after vista is happy on your HDD. Annoying Allow/Cancel boxes for everything I run, but this can be turned off easily.
Other Thoughts: Honestly, Vista is great, there are some great new features and the Aero theme is smooth. 64bit is the future.
Ultimate comes with several extras that are probably unnecessary. I heard Business edition is just like Ultimate, all the networking options, but without all the extra junk. Home Premium is very good too. Apparently Ultimate is overkill for most people and really doesn't have much to offer for the larger price tag. Get Ultimate if you got lots of cash lying around, other wise Home Premium or Business is just as good. My setup: Asus Z7S WS, 2xIntel Xeon E5430, 8GB Cruical FB-DIMM DDR2-800, 300GB VelociRaptor, 3x500GB Seagate HDD, ASUS 4870x2, Corsair 1000W PSU, Watercooling with EK Supreme and Thermochill PA120.3. OCing @ 2.92Ghz 24/7 rock solid stable.
40 second cinebench10, superpi to 32M in 17 minutes. Pros: Very pretty. The interface is all shiny and glossy. It's nice and fast with good hardware. I don't foresee returning to 32-bit any time soon.
Cons: Lots of annoying fatal errors. What really annoyed me was in the middle of a World of Warcraft Arena it suddenly closed WoW and all my other apps and automatically rebooted to install updated. This is the primary reason it got 4 eggs. You can disable it, but it shouldn't do that while you're active anyways.
Other Thoughts: If you want to continue to use windows just get this. Pay the few extra bucks for ultimate and 64-bit. XP is going away and like it or not we have to move on. Pros: Great Operating system.
It allows me to use All of my mother boards capabilities. A full 8 gigs of Hi-speed Gaming Ram and two 640 meg sli video cards. Cons: It was rather difficult to install. I had to pull most of the memory off of the board before it would even come up. But once I got it up and got on line I downloaded all the current updates for vista from Microsoft.Shut the system down and re-installed all the memory I had.and it came up and worked like a charm! Another thing, If you have an older printer or TV tuner card.or an older scanner.might want to think about going out and buying new stuff.
They don't work in 64 bit. Hp told me they were NOT going to supply a 64 bit driver for my scanner or printer.
Oh well, that's the price you pay when you build a super computer! Other Thoughts: I loved Windows XP.but it would NOT allow me to go to 64 bit and use all the memory I had available. I have three copies of XP on my other systems and I was NOT even going to try xP-64. Pros: 'Pretty' interface. Supports 4GB RAM.
I actually like UAC- it's nice to have the convenience of running an admin account without the gaping security hole. Cons: WGA is a pain in my hiney. Vista deactivated itself. With some fiddling I was able to activate it, but afterwords it stopped booting. I repaired to last known good configuration - which was from right before it deactivated itself. And the mandatory WHQL driver signatures is gahhhbage. Fortunately, you can disable it, but not if you want to use SP1.
Other Thoughts: This is the first time I've purchased Windows since 98SE. I have inever/i had as much trouble getting a pirated version working as I've had getting my legitimately purchased Vista copy working. I guess I know my future upgrade path now.
